Our take

Sentry is worth considering when the details of your freight and lease arrangements matter as much as the premium. Its reefer cargo provisions and portable non-trucking coverage give you specific terms to compare. The practical tradeoff is the agency relationship: that is where trucking customers should arrange their coverage and certificates. Ask how that service works during your dispatch hours. If you already use connected fleet equipment, price the telematics option separately and decide whether the potential saving justifies sharing the data.

What stands out

A closer look at Sentry

Getting covered

Describe the loads and trailers you actually use. Refrigerated cargo protection and damage to a trailer you borrow are different questions; ask the agent to identify each in the proposal. When leased on, bring the carrier’s insurance requirements so non-business and unladen use are addressed explicitly.

Truck, cargo and liability coverage

Owner-operators and fleets, through appointed agencies specializing in trucking.

The public trucking page does not specify minimum authority age, driver experience or a complete state-by-state appetite. Have an appointed agent check your operation.

Auto liability, physical damage, motor truck cargo, non-trucking liability, general liability and cyber coverage are listed.

Cargo theft is covered under the described policy. Available protection can also include debris removal and earned freight charges lost after a covered loss.

The cargo FAQ describes temperature losses caused by sudden, accidental mechanical failure of refrigeration or heating equipment. This does not establish coverage for every spoiled load or for damage to a borrowed trailer itself.

Collision, comprehensive and specified-perils options are available. The agreed policy determines the repair, replacement or actual-value basis.

Rental reimbursement, gap coverage and towing can be added to physical-damage coverage. Published descriptions do not give their limits or deductibles.

Coverage when leased onto a carrier

Non-trucking liability addresses non-business driving and is portable between leases. Optional unladen liability is separate; discuss your motor carrier’s requirements.

Packaging non-trucking liability with physical damage puts them on one bill.

Price, policy terms and certificates

A tailored agent quote; no standard trucking premium, deposit or installment schedule is published on the product page.

The public page does not give a standard policy term or cancellation/refund calculation. Request these with the written proposal.

Quick pay accepts an account number and ZIP code without a portal login. Ask the agent for the available payment schedule and charges.

Sentry offers portal certificates, but specifically directs customers represented by an agency to request certificates from that agency. No turnaround commitment is stated.

Claims, recovery and safety support

Sentry says its trucking adjusters are in-house associates specializing in trucking risks.

Online reporting is available to policyholders and third-party guests. Claim status can be checked with the claim number and incident date; policyholders also have portal tracking.

Customers can report a claim at 800-473-6879. Online account help uses the same number.

Sentry’s trucking guide describes 24-hour claim reporting and an accident kit for each insured driver. Claims staff may arrange field investigation or legal help when needed; in-house handling does not mean every onsite task is performed by an employee.

Sentry describes working with Transit Pros for towing. That coordination does not establish unlimited towing or storage reimbursement under your policy.

Transportation safety associates help identify risks and establish safety procedures. The public page does not promise a fixed number of visits or training sessions.

Optional telematics program

Eligible insureds may receive up to 5% off premium at binding by sharing ELD and dashcam information with Sentry through TruckerCloud. Eligibility and the actual amount need confirmation; this is a provider program, not a Carrier Alliance special.

The Sentry program lists supported cameras and ELDs, including Motive and Samsara. Check the actual devices and account connection before relying on the discount.

TruckerCloud links driver identity with mileage, vehicle assignments and safety events. Fleets authorize sharing during onboarding; driver-data calls can be disabled by configuration, but the FAQ does not say that doing so preserves Sentry’s discount.
